Duet Diet / Case study

Two people, one meal journal.

Duet Diet is an iPhone app for keeping track of what you and your duo ate. You each log your own meals, see them together on a shared plate, and look back on the week with your own nutrition goals in view.

The challenge

Make it easy to keep up with each other.

Sending a photo of lunch takes seconds. Finding that photo a week later and remembering what was on the plate takes more work. Duet Diet gives those everyday updates a place where both people can find them again.

The Today screen puts both people’s progress above a shared meal feed. Color and names carry through to the weekly chart, so it’s easy to see who logged what and how the week is going. Each person sets their own targets.

Meal logging

Start with a photo. Keep the details editable.

The log button stays within reach across the app. A meal photo can start a draft with estimated calories and macros. Before sharing it, you can check the details, adjust the portion, and add a note. You can also look up a food and choose the amount yourself.

What I’m proud of

One view with room for two goals
Putting the summaries side by side made the duo feel present as soon as the app opens. The shared feed gives both people context while the individual targets keep progress personal.
A streak built around showing up
The streak counts days when both people logged a meal. It gives the pair something to celebrate together, regardless of what either person ate that day.
A clear review step before sharing
A photo gets the entry started, and the review step gives you a chance to correct the estimate before your partner sees it.

Looking back

A week you can revisit together.

History gives both people a way to move from daily updates to the bigger picture. The weekly chart shows each person’s activity, and opening a day brings back the individual meals behind it. The screens shown here use the app’s sample data.

Shared meals, personal goals.

Open a partner’s meal to see what they logged and leave a quick reaction. The Pair screen gives both people a place to see their targets and adjust their own.
